KitaabLink

Collecting books from cities and delivering them, with stationery, to free libraries and schools in villages that lack them.

Years of the project completed (May 2023)

Overview

KitaabLink began from a book donation drive in Sabhapur village on the outskirts of Delhi, where young people had reopened an abandoned community hall as a free library. Donated books and funds from Saadhak helped stock it for school students and for those preparing for government examinations. On 28 September 2022 the library was named the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Public Library.

In March 2024 Saadhak Foundation and Operation Smile signed an MOU to build a supply chain that collects books in urban areas and takes them to remote rural regions. On Independence Day 2024 the project delivered books and stationery to a small government school in Bhatoli village, in the buffer zone of Jim Corbett National Park, where children walk the same paths as wild animals to reach class.

In June 2023 the library opened a girls-only section and recognised students who had cleared government exams.
